United Country Double Creek had the pleasure of dining with Jan Carter of the Rabbit Patch a few weeks ago.

Looking for a fun place to catch up with old friends? Stop in at the Rabbit Patch!

For National Burger Day, United Country Double Creek spent a little time in our very own Rabbit Patch hanging out with Jan Carter, the owner, enjoying a couple of her juicy burgers! Jan, a local school teacher and her husband, a local firefighter opened The Rabbit Patch in 2016 and have never looked back! It was a pleasure getting to know Jan as we discussed her sweet hang-out and dream-made reality in the Rabbit Patch. After Marcie and I enjoyed our delicious sliders and perfectly grilled patty melt, Jan shared a little history about the place on the corner of Hiram and William.

Walking in, you get a sense you are stepping back in time to when things were simpler. A time when running to the soda shop after school was the highlight of the day, just to sit at the counter and enjoy watching the soda jerk make shakes with your friends after school. The ambiance is certainly something to admire. From original fountain fixtures and counter of the original pharmacy, classic 50’s and 60’s pop music playing to a refurbished phone booth tucked in the back, they have created a space that all generations love.
Not only did they keep a lot of the history, Jan and her family have created a museum of sorts, honoring all of the local schools. Donations from alumni will bring you back to the good ol’ days. Pictures of sports teams, megaphones, letterman jackets, yearbooks and mascot memories don the school themed locker-like shelves. You can spend hours here reminiscing of times gone by.
It is national burger day, so we enjoyed burger baskets, but I wasn’t surprised when Jan described her favorite plate on the menu as the Chicken Salad Sandwich on a Croissant Roll, because it is absolutely delish! My normal go to is the Monte Cristo Basket, another MUST TRY. When my family visits, we always have to sit at the counter with a loaded fries and at least one milkshake, but that is “ a must “ with service like this! You will want to take it all in.
Although the effects pandemic were the catalyst for a reduction in hours, the Patch is open from Monday through Friday 11:00 – 7:00 PM as well as for special nights like the Steve Smith Cruise Night coming up on June 10th from 5:30 – 9:30PM. If you haven’t taken the time to enjoy our little time capsule, right here in Atlanta, TX, what are you waiting for?
Stop in and say hi to Jan and while you’re at it, go ahead and order that hand dipped milkshake! You know you want to! Don’t have time to dine in, just call ahead or order from their website! They will have your hot and freshly made lunch or dinner ready to go! Or just sit at home and have it delivered! They use Waitr too!
